Seoul’s Mapo District announced on the 7th that it is strengthening its pest control activities in key green spaces such as Seonyeong Forest and Saeteosan to address the recent rapid increase of ‘lovebugs’ within the urban area.
On the afternoon of July 4th, Park Kang-su, the Mayor of Mapo District, made a direct visit to the pest control site to check the progress and explore ways to minimize resident inconvenience. This site inspection was part of countermeasures in response to the recent surge in lovebugs due to rising temperatures throughout the city.
Although lovebugs do not directly harm humans, they can cause inconvenience and discomfort when they appear in large numbers, leading to continued complaints from residents.
Mayor Park stated, “Even though lovebugs are beneficial insects, the inconvenience felt by residents cannot be taken lightly,” and promised, “We will continue to strengthen eco-friendly pest control so that residents can feel safe and live their daily lives comfortably.”
Mapo District is conducting continuous monitoring to prepare for the spread of lovebugs and plans to maintain a systematic pest control system to ensure it does not interfere with resident’s lives.
