The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that on June 25, during the 11th Urban and Architectural Joint Committee meeting, they modified and approved the designation and planning decision for the district unit planning area encompassing 356-159 Sangdo-dong, Dongjak-gu.

The target area is located north of Sangdo Road between Sindaebangsamgeori Station and Jangseungbaegi Station on Subway Line 7, with approximately 86% of the buildings being outdated and substandard, making the improvement of the residential environment urgent. While large-scale development is active in the nearby southern area, this area has lagged in development, with the deterioration of residential areas continuing.

Through this district unit planning decision, the Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to refurbish infrastructure such as roads and parks, and construct 551 units of communal apartments, including public elderly care facilities. This aims to systematically reorganize the outdated residential area and improve living conditions.

Additionally, considering the characteristics of the hilly terrain, excessive installation of retaining walls will be avoided, and stairs and elevators will be placed in varying height zones to enhance accessibility for pedestrians. Through such plans, the Seoul Metropolitan Government intends to create a pleasant living environment that harmonizes with the natural terrain and enhances residential convenience.

The city expects this decision will contribute to not only the refurbishment of outdated residential areas but also the expansion of public elderly care facilities and the improvement of infrastructure, thereby effectively enhancing the living environment for local residents.
