On the 17th, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced that it will inspect preparation conditions with local governments and related organizations nationwide ahead of the opening of beaches this summer.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to hold a meeting with 10 coastal provinces, the Korea Coast Guard, the National Fire Agency, the National Institute of Fisheries Science, and others on June 18 to discuss beach operation preparations and safety management cooperation plans.

Local governments are asked to appropriately deploy safety personnel and rescue equipment, inform safety rules through banners and announcements, and install barriers against harmful creatures such as jellyfish and sharks.

The National Institute of Fisheries Science will strengthen jellyfish monitoring, and the National Oceanographic Research Institute will be in charge of real-time rip current surveillance. The Korea Coast Guard and the National Fire Agency will operate a response system for water accidents.

Starting from the on-site inspection of Ulsan Jinha Beach on June 27 and Busan Imrang Beach on July 1, continuous inspections will be conducted before and after the opening through frequent on-site inspections by the minister and vice-minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and through inspection teams by local governments.

Kang Do-hyung, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, stated, “We will work with related organizations to inspect sites and establish an incident response system to ensure that not a single accident occurs at the beaches this year.”

Busan Haeundae, Songjeong, Incheon Eurwangri, Wangsan, and Hanagae beaches will open first on June 21. The opening and closing schedules of beaches nationwide can be checked on ‘Badaon,’ the marine travel website.
