SK Group announced the establishment and full-scale activity of the ‘Information Protection Innovation Special Committee’, in which external experts participate, to enhance the group’s overall security capabilities.
On the 14th, SK Group launched the independent professional body form of the Information Protection Innovation Special Committee to preemptively detect and block security risks of its affiliates.
The committee is established as the 9th committee under the Suprex Pursuit Council, the group’s top decision-making body, and chaired by Chairman Choi Chang-won of the Suprex Pursuit Council. The practical work is led by Vice President Yoon Poong-young of SK AX.
The committee includes members from SK, SK Innovation, SK Hynix, SK Telecom, as well as B2C affiliates like SK Networks, SK Broadband, and SK Square.

External experts, including Kwon Heon-young, a professor at Korea University (External Advisory Chairman), Choi Kyung-jin from Gachon University, Lee Byeong-young from Seoul National University, and Kim Yong-dae from KAIST, along with business leaders like Park Se-jun, CEO of Theory, and Park Chan-am, CEO of Stealien, participate as advisory members.
To enhance execution power, the committee operates an ‘Information Protection Innovation Team’ centered around cybersecurity officers from the Suprex Pursuit Council and each affiliated company. It plans to link with CISO and legal/compliance organizations to pursue execution tasks.
The first execution task is a ‘penetration test (mock hacking)’. This involves checking system vulnerabilities using actual hacking technology across all affiliates, performed by professional security companies with domestic and international hacking competition winnings.
SK Telecom plans to reorganize its information protection system to meet global standards and undergo external verification. The entire group’s affiliates will not only conduct measures to protect customer information but also provide comprehensive consulting on the five core areas of security (governance, identification, protection, detection, response).
The plan is to analyze each affiliate’s security level, reflect the results of the mock hacking, and immediately implement customized improvement measures such as expanding intelligent learning-based security solutions.
SK Group will also invest in advanced security technologies such as APT (Advanced Persistent Threat) response, industrial security, and AI security.
Through regular monthly meetings and technical working-level meetings, SK Group stated that it would maximize the execution power of the Information Protection Innovation Special Committee and enhance the security level of the entire group to global top-tier standards.
