Innovating Procurement Administration with AI: Public Procurement Service Hosts AI Forum

The Public Procurement Service (PPS) held the “Public Procurement AI Innovation Forum” at the Dalgabi Conference House in Seoul on the 25th to discuss innovation strategies using artificial intelligence (AI) in procurement administration.

Key issues discussed at the forum included the establishment of an AI-based evaluation committee recommendation platform, support for drafting proposals using large language models (LLM), and the application of AI chatbots in the next-generation national procurement system. The PPS is currently reviewing the feasibility and potential effects of applying these cases from multiple angles.

The forum also focused on the AI usage cases from foreign procurement agencies. Participants shared experiences with AI adoption in major overseas countries and proposed practical application strategies suited to Korea’s procurement environment.

Plans to offer customized services utilizing AI to procurement companies and demand agencies were also discussed. The PPS is examining ways to support businesses and institutions in utilizing procurement information more easily and accurately through AI technology.

Im Ki-geun, Commissioner of the Public Procurement Service, said, “This forum marks the first step in substantially integrating AI into procurement administration,” adding, “We will actively develop ideas and collaborate with experts to realize efficient procurement administration.”

The PPS plans to follow up on the discussions from this forum with phased pilot applications and further deliberations. There is keen interest in whether AI technology can lead comprehensive innovation in procurement.
