The energy transition services company Good News Energy has donated solar power facilities to the alternative education institution Rainbow School in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do.
This project was carried out as part of a company’s social contribution activities to donate self-consumption solar systems and demonstrate a new business model that allows these to be utilized for RE100 performance.
The donated facilities consist of a 3kW high-efficiency solar module and inverter. The annual electricity production is approximately 3.83 MWh, which equates to a reduction of 1.8 tons of greenhouse gases. This is equivalent to planting 648 pine trees and corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of a four-person household.
Rainbow School is an alternative school that promotes eco-friendly education where disabled and non-disabled students live together. Kim Hyung-gu, head of Rainbow Education Village, said, “Although students postponed installing air conditioners for polar bears, they can now do so with solar power.”
National Assembly member Lee So-young (Ui-wang and Gwacheon, Gyeonggi) commented, “It is significant that students can naturally encounter renewable energy in their daily lives,” assessing the event positively. Gwacheon city council members Park Ju-ri and Lee Joo-yeon, as well as Hongjo Jang, vice-chairman of the parent committee, attended the donation ceremony.
Good News Energy Director Song Min-young stated, “While corporate demand for RE100 continues to grow, supply remains limited. If social contribution facilities are recognized as achievements, corporate participation can be increased.”
Meanwhile, Good News Energy is a subsidiary of climate tech company 60 Hertz, operating renewable energy trading and subscription services. The accumulated procurement amount reaches 16GWh, supporting the achievement of RE100 goals based on sophisticated power generation prediction technologies and domestic and foreign partnerships.
