Seoul Green Trust announced on April 22 that it has established the “Green Garden” in collaboration with the global beauty brand L’Occitane Korea and Seoul City in Maehyeon Citizen’s Forest. This garden aims to restore the urban ecosystem deteriorated by the climate crisis and conserve sustainable urban park greenery.
The name “Green Garden” combines the first syllable of L’Occitane, “Green,” with “lush and moist garden.” The space, aimed at boosting ecosystem resilience, spans about 500 square meters and is designed to attract diverse species as a habitat in the city. It includes 13 naturally-grown bald cypress trees and consists of areas such as “Bald Cypress Wetland,” which retains moisture seasonally, “Seasonal Wetland,” which holds water temporarily, and a passage known as “Fragrant Path,” which captures “the shape of fragrance.” Additionally, trees felled during park management and eco-friendly materials were used to contribute to creating a sustainable ecological environment.
This initiative is part of L’Occitane Korea’s global biodiversity protection activities. L’Occitane has been conducting various global ecological conservation projects, including protecting endangered plants, restoring devastated forests, and promoting regenerative agriculture.

Seoul Green Trust is expanding a governance model in which companies and local communities jointly create urban forests. At the opening ceremony held on the 21st, approximately 40 employees of L’Occitane Korea participated in gardening volunteer work. Participants engaged in hands-on activities such as planting and cultivating the ecological environment, aimed at securing the sustainability of urban parks.
Ji Young-sun, president of Seoul Green Trust, said, “Ecological restoration of urban parks is a crucial task in responding to the climate crisis,” expressing hope that the new garden would help position Maehyeon Citizen’s Forest as an ecological hub in the city.
The Green Garden represents a new attempt to realize the restoration and conservation of urban ecosystems, beyond mere landscaping. Maehyeon Citizen’s Forest is gaining attention as a new model for sustainable urban parks through this project.
