The Korean Intellectual Property Office offers patent strategies for renewable energy technologies on-site.
The Korean Intellectual Property Office will operate a Patent Counseling Center for renewable energy companies at the ’22nd International Green Energy Expo’ held at Daegu EXCO from April 23 to 25. The key to this consultation is to provide tailored patent strategies in the fields of hydrogen, solar energy, and more directly on the site.
The event is co-hosted by Daegu City and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, and jointly organized by four renewable energy-related associations, including the Hydrogen Industry Association and the Solar Industry Association. Over 300 domestic and international companies will participate, showcasing advanced technologies in the energy sector.
The government plans to expand the proportion of rated capacity of renewable energy sources to 45% by 2035. Accordingly, securing intellectual property in energy technology is emerging as a crucial competitive advantage.
The Korean Intellectual Property Office has formed a team that includes patent examiners, public patent attorneys, and consulting experts to conduct consultations ensuring that technological developments are genuinely protected. The structure links research and development with patents to support conversion into substantial rights.
‘Premium patents’ refer to patents with high economic value, broad exclusivity, validity to third parties, and high stability. This on-site consultancy is designed to ensure that such premium patent strategies can be incorporated from the research and development stage of individual companies.
The Korean Intellectual Property Office has supported companies in securing strong rights throughout the entire lifecycle of a patent, from filing, examination to protection and utilization. The plan is to expand on-site interactions through this expo so that companies in the renewable energy sector can strategically consider patents from the early stages of research and development.
A representative from the Korea Hydrogen Industry Association stated, “Providing patent strategies on-site is a timely opportunity for renewable energy companies,” expressing hope for the activation of public-private cooperation for patent-based research and development.
Park Yong-joo, Director-General of the Mechanical and Metal Examination Bureau at the Korean Intellectual Property Office, said, “Renewable energy is a key industry of the future,” and emphasized, “We aim to strengthen communication with companies on-site to create premium patents.”
