To actively respond to the increasingly sophisticated and advanced intellectual property crimes, the Korean Intellectual Property Office held an opening ceremony for the ‘Digital Evidence Analysis Room’ at the Daejeon Government Complex (Seo-gu, Daejeon) on April 14th at 10:30 AM.

The digital investigation system to counter intellectual property crimes has been strengthened. The Korean Intellectual Property Office announced that they have opened a ‘Digital Evidence Analysis Room’ at the Daejeon Government Complex on April 14th, and will fully operate their advanced forensic-based investigation capabilities.
The newly established analysis room serves as a dedicated investigation space for the special judicial police of the Korean Intellectual Property Office, equipped with digital equipment and professional personnel, and includes a separate observation room. This measure aims to enhance transparency and procedural reliability in the investigative process.
Since the launch of the technology and design special judicial police in 2021, the Korean Intellectual Property Office has introduced digital forensic investigation techniques and expanded related equipment and personnel. From 2022 to 2024, the number of criminal cases filed reached a total of 2,173. Particularly, forensic investigation has become a core technique in trade secret leakage cases.

On the same day, the Korean Intellectual Property Office also opened a ‘Counterfeit Goods Pop-up Exhibition Hall.’ The exhibition, held on the first floor of the Daejeon Government Complex, focuses on brands and items frequently affected by counterfeiting among the confiscated counterfeit goods by the trademark police. Many everyday items such as home appliances and household goods are included.
The exhibits will be replaced every 2-3 months, and counterfeit goods detected during customs clearance, in collaboration with the Korea Customs Service, will also be showcased. Famous brands such as Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Rolex, as well as cosmetics, water purifiers, and vehicle components that are directly related to public health, are included.
Shin Sang-gon, Director of the Industrial Property Protection Cooperation Bureau of the Korean Intellectual Property Office, stated, “We will actively respond to sophisticated intellectual property crimes based on digital forensic investigation,” and added, “We hope to raise public awareness and alertness through the exhibition.”
