Hyundai Rotem announced on the 8th that it has started its internal production of renewable energy by installing its first solar power facility on the rooftop of the Quality Safety Center building at the Changwon Plant. This facility can produce approximately 115 MWh of electricity annually, enough to fully charge a small electric vehicle with a 42 kWh battery about 2,700 times.
The electricity generated will replace some of the internal power consumption at the Changwon Plant, reducing the usage of fossil fuel-based power and contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Hyundai Rotem plans to expand the use of renewable energy to all domestic and international sites starting with this facility.
Within this year, additional solar facilities will be introduced at the ‘Hyundai Rotem Smart Electric America’, a production hub for electric components in the US, along with the Changwon plant. The company is determined to accelerate the transition, taking into account changes in the renewable energy market, policies, and technology.
The company’s overarching renewable energy adoption strategy aims for all business sites to operate on 100% renewable energy by 2040, as part of the implementation of the carbon neutrality roadmap announced in 2023.

A Hyundai Rotem representative stated, “The construction of solar facilities is the starting point for sustainable growth and the realization of carbon neutrality,” and added, “We will accelerate the transition to renewable energy across all business sites by utilizing various renewable energy sources.”
Meanwhile, Hyundai Rotem was recognized for its efforts in sustainable management last year, achieving the highest integrated A+ rating among defense system companies in the ESG evaluation by the Korea ESG Standards Institute.
