The four main palaces of Joseon and the royal tombs of the Joseon dynasty, along with Jongmyo, have been reborn as smartphone wallpapers, encapsulating the history and culture of the Joseon period.
The Korea Cultural Heritage Administration, in collaboration with the cyber diplomacy organization VANK, has announced the creation and distribution of phone wallpapers promoting the heritage of palaces and royal tombs, including Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung, Deoksugung, and Jongmyo among others.
This project is part of a memorandum of understanding signed between the two organizations on January 20th and follows the inauguration ceremony of the ‘2025 First-Half Global Palaces and Tombs Ambassadors’ held on March 14th.
The wallpapers feature major images of nine heritage sites including Gyeongbokgung and Jongmyo, as well as a calendar design containing the schedule for royal culture festivals and the Joseon Royal Tombs Festival in 2025. These images can be downloaded for free by anyone from VANK’s online album.
The Korea Cultural Heritage Administration stated, “We plan to continuously devise new promotional strategies compatible with the digital age to widely publicize palace heritage. Through collaboration with VANK, we aim to naturally introduce the value of our palaces and royal tombs to diverse age groups domestically and internationally.”
The March wallpaper has been released first, and new wallpapers are set to be added at the end of each month.
