On February 19 at 2:30 PM, Park Chun-seon, Vice Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council’s Environment and Water Resources Committee (Gangdong 3, People Power Party), presented the results of community-based ESG activities at the ‘2025 ESG Seoul Forum’ held at the Korea Press Center. Hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Council and organized by the Society for Sustainable Management, Park reinterpreted Seoul’s ESG policies under the slogan “Let’s Go to a Beneficial Environment in Seoul,” introducing region-focused ESG practice cases.

Park shared cases where community-participation-focused environmental protection activities were prominently promoted in the field of Environment. He highlighted the regular environmental clean-up and removal of ecological disturbance plants in Godok Stream, Gangdong-gu, especially emphasizing the role of the ‘Godok Stream Environmental Guardianship Activities’ and the ‘Beautiful Garden Guardianship’, which have raised environmental awareness among residents and contributed to the preservation of the local ecosystem.

In the Social area, Park presented achievements in improving local infrastructure and operating the Seoul-type Integrated Health Support Program for Infertility. He noted that he contributed to attracting the establishment of the Ganghyun Elementary Campus, the first urban campus at Gangsol Elementary School, addressing the residents’ wish for improved transportation infrastructure and the alleviation of overcrowded classrooms. Additionally, he evaluated the program’s success in achieving pregnancies among 25 of the 100 couples participating in the 2024 Seoul-type Integrated Health Support Program for Infertility, proving its tangible welfare policy benefits.

Regarding Governance, Park explained efforts to realize local community ESG through public-private cooperation systems. He stated, “The core of ESG realization is the regular operation of consultative sessions to gather and reflect residents’ opinions, on-site visits to identify everyday problems, and the establishment of collaborative networks between public institutions and private organizations,” highlighting the reinforcement of community-based governance as an essential element for a sustainable Seoul.

Park Chun-seon remarked, “Protecting the environment, solving social issues, and transparently and accountably advancing policies for us and future generations is the essence of ESG,” adding, “Community-based ESG practices will be the foundation for a sustainable future.” He further emphasized that “small changes starting in the community will drive the competitiveness of ESG throughout Seoul,” and committed to continuous efforts with residents for environmental preservation, promotion of social equity, and establishment of transparent governance.
