Seoul City will select this year’s Yongsan Park citizen participation programs through an online vote. Since 2018, the city has been operating a citizen participation platform to foster consensus on the Yongsan Park development project. With this vote, it plans to actively incorporate citizen feedback into the park’s development process.

Moving away from expert-led programs, the city intends to design and operate programs infused with citizens’ creative ideas. The goal is to create Yongsan Park collaboratively with citizens by expanding programs beyond children’s educational materials to engage a wide range of age groups, enhancing public understanding and experience of the park’s development.

The online voting will take place from February 21 to February 27 on the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Embossing website. Anyone can participate via PC and smartphone, choosing their preferred programs. The results will be reflected in the 2025 Yongsan Park activation and citizen communication program management.

The program operation will be centered around the Yongsan Urban Memory Exhibition Hall near Sinyongsan Station. The government plans to collaborate so that communication spaces like the Yongsan Children’s Garden and Janggyo Residence Complex 5, operated by the state, can also implement these programs.

At the Yongsan Urban Memory Exhibition Hall, the park development process of the Yongsan Base, the history of the surrounding area, the Yongsan International Business District, and future development plans like the Yongsan Gateway project are presented to citizens, showcasing the evolving landscape of Yongsan. Furthermore, a work titled “Unfinished Construction and Perfect Decomposition” by Song Chan and Oh Jung-yoon, chosen as the best idea in last year’s “University Student Idea Workshop: Sketching a Park City Yongsan Together,” is now on display in physical form.

Im Chang-soo, Seoul’s Future Space Planning Director, stated, “Through this citizen vote, we aim to design programs that resonate with and can be experienced by various age groups. With the government’s cooperation, we plan to advance the symbolic and attractive urban space of Yongsan Park, Korea’s first national park, aligning it with the Yongsan International Business District’s global prominence and inspiring national pride.”
