The Environment Foundation (led by Chairman Choi Yul) completed the equipment support for the fourth year’s target school of the ‘Clean School Project’, conducted jointly with Hanwha Group and the Community Chest of Korea, and held a commemorative ceremony on the 2nd at Daejeon Jinjam Elementary School with the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Attendees at the event included Choi Yul, Chairman of the Environment Foundation, Kim Wan-seob, Minister of Environment, Chey Tae-won, President of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kim Shin-yeon, Head of Hanwha Social Volunteer Corps, Koo-ho Lee, Vice Chairman of Kolon, and Ik-koo Lee, Deputy Mayor of Economic Science of Daejeon Metropolitan City.
‘Clean School Project’ is a project that was revamped in 2022 from Hanwha’s ‘Happy Sunshine’ solar power facility support project, which started in 2011, focusing on improving educational environments such as air quality and fine dust reduction. The project includes air quality improvement and fine dust reduction facilities, solar power generation equipment, and eco-friendly rest areas.
This year, six schools, including Seoul Yanghwa Elementary, Incheon Seokjeong Elementary, Daejeon Jinjam Elementary, Daegu Sinheung Elementary, Gwangju Geumdang Elementary, and Tongyeong Yongnam Elementary, were selected as support targets. The selection of schools was decided by a panel of environmental engineering experts and educators. The location of Daejeon Jinjam Elementary near the Honam Expressway was considered due to its high exposure to fine dust.

The support items include not only eco-friendly infrastructure but also environmental education programs on climate crisis themes, and at Geoje Sangdong Elementary, which was supported last year, air shower installations have led to a reduction in maximum concentrations of PM10 by 72.6%, PM2.5 by 69%, and carbon dioxide by 69%.
The commemorative ceremony on this day was conducted in conjunction with the ‘Together Sharing Project’ of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Kolon participated in the event through eco-friendly energy education for elementary and middle school students.
Kim Shin-yeon, head of Hanwha Social Volunteer Corps, stated, “Creating a clean school goes beyond mere facility support and marks the starting point of change that everyone builds together,” emphasizing the continuous fulfillment of corporate social responsibility. Chairman Choi Yul of the Environment Foundation stated, “We will create sustainable change through eco-friendly infrastructure and education.”
The Environment Foundation and Hanwha have supported approximately 15,000 students in 21 elementary schools nationwide to date.
